A Tucson man who was in a minor fender-bender in the drive-thru lane of a fast food restaurant died after crashing his SUV after speeding away from the scene.

Tucson police spokeswoman Sgt. Maria Hawke says investigators don’t know if 28-year old Gregory Ty Fitzgerald was trying to get away from the minor wreck late Tuesday or if he sped away for some other reason.

Hawke says Fitzgerald was at the Viva Burrito restaurant on South 12th Avenue just after 11 a.m. when his Nissan Pathfinder hit the vehicle in front, then backed up into the one behind before speeding away.

Fitzgerald accelerated onto 12th Avenue, veering across the median and into the opposing lanes before crossing the median again. The Nissan then rolled, partially ejecting Fitzgerald.
