Tucson bus riders protest bus fare increase

Some bus riders in Tucson are refusing to rollover and take a proposed bus fare hike. KGUN-TV (http://bit.ly/GXZyvZ ) reports several dozen bus riders rallied before a city council session Tuesday.
The proposed Sun Tran hike is being discussed as a way to possibly balance the budget. If the plan goes through, regular fares would jump from $1.50 to $1.75, and low-income fares would go from 50 cents to 85 cents a ride.
Tucson man’s death sentence overturned

Arrest Made in Tucson Stabbing Death

Tucson police have arrested a man on suspicion of first-degree murder after a man was stabbed to death last Thursday.
Thomas Warren, 23, was arrested Sunday in connection with the stabbing death of 21-year-old Clinton Myers. Warren was booked into the Pima County Jail. Myers was found inside a home with a stab wound.

A Tucson man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a deadly home invasion has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Pima County prosecutors say 26-year-old Ashton Walker was arrested in August 2010 after Michael White was fatally shot while committing a home invasion. More >
2 linked to Tucson home robbery killed in wreck

A vehicle being chased by deputies in connection with a home robbery on Tucson’s southwest side early today crashed into a building, killing two of four people inside, officials said.
The incident started about 2 a.m. when three women told deputies they were followed home and robbed by people who first approached them at Casino del Sol, Deputy Dawn Barkman, a Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said in a news release.
Tucson man hit twice with police stun gun dies

Tucson police say they will have more to say Monday on the death of a 46-year-old man who struggled with Tucson police and was hit twice with a stun gun and later died.
Michael Carbone was pronounced dead early Sunday morning at a Tucson hospital. Police spokeswoman Sgt. Maria Hawke tells The Associated Press the department has launched an internal investigation into Carbone’s death.
Tucson hearing set for April 26 in Patterson case

An April 26 hearing is scheduled in Tucson city court on whether a state lawmaker can postpone proceedings in his domestic violence case until after the legislative session ends.
Tucson city magistrate Wendy Million also will decide on that day whether Tucson Democratic Rep. Daniel Patterson violated the terms of his release by contacting his former girlfriend, according to the Arizona Daily Star. Patterson was charged earlier this month with assault with intent to injure, unlawful imprisonment, disorderly conduct and harassment.
Tucson man given 51 months in investment scam

A Corona de Tucson man was sentenced in federal court Wednesday to 51 months in prison for scamming investors of over $1 million in a 2008 scheme in which their money to buy classic cars. In December, Philip M. Cain pleaded guilty to mail fraud, engaging in monetary transactions in property from specified unlawful activity and structuring transactions to evade reporting requirements.
Cain scammed investors out of money they were told would be invested into Deutsche Bank, but instead was used to buy, repair and sell cars at classic car auctions, according to a criminal complaint.
